Rock Slide Temporarily Closes Scenic Railroad

CONEJOS COUNTY, Colo. (CBS4) - The Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad in New Mexico and southern Colorado is back open after a rock slide temporarily shut down the tracks.

Photos were posted to the company's Facebook page on Tuesday, showing massive boulders on the railroad tracks near Rock Tunnel.

The July 4 slide closed the line from Antonito to Osier station. Crews worked through the day and the railroad was running on its full schedule by 9:15 a.m. Tuesday.

"When you operate the highest, longest and most authentic steam railroad in America, Mother Nature sometimes plays a role, and we apologize to all riders who had a shortened trip," said railroad president John Bush.
