Rally Held At Capitol For Change In Egypt
DENVER (CBS4) - The revolution in Egypt reached Colorado on Sunday. Dozens of pro-Arab democracy protestors rallied at the steps of the state Capitol. They want Egyptian President Mubarak to step down.
Up to 50 Coloradans, many with an Egyptian background, wrapped up the rally that supports the downfall of Hosni Mubarak. Mubarak's been in power for three decades.
The protestors say that the youth of Egypt is fed-up with the corruption there and that they understand human rights and modern society. The Egyptian people want freedom and an American-style democracy.
"They suffered from hunger, lack of treatment, they were just like ignored in the society as if they were not there, it's just for the upper class people," Nancy Ragab from Greenwood Village said.
They can see that other countries are progressing; they can see what the value of freedom gives to people; they can see that through freedom; the people can reach their potential, and the Egyptian people are very ambitious; they believe a lot in themselves.
In addition to the optimism for democracy, there was also fear. CBS4's Howard Nathan spoke with one man who plans to fly to Alexandria, Egypt. He says the police have let the criminals run loose and he fears for the safety of his family.
