Prosecutor: Man Wanted To Ram Police Station With Car
DENVER (CBS4) - Police say the man who was arrested in a Denver police station on Monday walked in carrying a semi-automatic handgun, an AR-15 and 180 rounds of ammunition.
Police evacuated the neighborhood around the District 4 station late Monday morning after police say Daniel Ruiz drove his car onto the lawn of the building.
Ruiz, 33, made his first appearance in court Tuesday morning. In court an prosecutor with the district attorney's office said Ruiz had gone to the station a week ago and was angry for not being considered as a candidate for the Denver police force.
Denver's chief deputy DA told the judge Ruiz made threats to Denver police online a few days ago. Then on Monday they believe he was trying to ram his SUV into the police building. That's how the car ended up on the lawn.
When setting bond, Ruiz's attorney argued that he has no criminal history.
The judge set his bond at $200,000.
