Prosecutor Joins Team In Theater Shootings

CENTENNIAL, Colo. (AP) - An assistant state attorney general has been appointed to the team prosecuting James Holmes in the Colorado theater shootings.

District Attorney George Brauchler added Daniel W. Edwards to the case on May 8. The move was announced in a court filing made public Monday.

Edwards is on the attorney general's Violent Crime Assistance Team. Brauchler's spokeswoman didn't immediately respond to an email seeking comment.

Holmes is charged with multiple counts of murder and attempted murder in the July 20 assault that killed 12 and injured 70. A judge has entered a plea of not guilty on his behalf, but Holmes has asked to change the plea to not guilty by reason of insanity.

Prosecutors are seeking the death penalty.
