Police Say Driver In Fatal Crash Was Going 50 MPH Over Limit

AURORA, Colo. (CBS4) - Police in Aurora have arrested an Arvada man who faces a slew of charges following a fatal crash on the morning after Thanksgiving.

Investigators say Jonathan Ichrist was drunk and driving recklessly when he struck a car being driven by Catherine Wheels shortly after midnight.

Wheels, 22, of Denver, died and her 21-year-old passenger was hospitalized.

Ichrist, 36, now faces the following charges:

- Two counts of vehicular homicide
- Two counts of vehicular assault
- Driving under the influence of alcohol
- Reckless driving

Aurora police released the following statement on Friday about the crash:

"The reckless driving is supported by the accident reconstruction which determined Mr. Ichrist's vehicle traveling at 92 mph westbound on Iliff Avenue and entering the intersection with S. Havana Street against a red light."

The speed limit on Iliff in the area where the crash happened is 40 mph.

Ichrist is now in jail in Jefferson County and will be transported to the jail in Arapahoe County soon. His bond was set at $50,000.
