Police Release ID Of Driver Suspected In Serious Wrong-Way Crash

AURORA, Colo. (CBS4) – Police in Aurora have released the identity of a man suspected of driving the wrong way on Interstate 225 and causing a head-on collision that injured another driver early last Saturday morning.

According to police, David Puente-Ruiz, 35, of Denver, faces multiple charges, including felony vehicular assault and felony hit and run involving serious bodily injury.

At around 2:21 a.m. Aurora police said they received reports of a pickup truck traveling south in the northbound lanes of I-225. Soon afterwards the truck struck a Honda vehicle head on just north of South Parker Road.

The adult male driver of the truck fled the scene on foot but with the assistance of a Heather Gardens security guard the driver was captured.

The female driver of the Honda received serious but non-life-threatening injuries from the crash.

Police also believe Puente-Ruiz was driving under the influence of alcohol. He was arraigned on Tuesday in Arapahoe County.
