Police: No Ticket For Teen Whose Legs Were Severed
LONGMONT, Colo. (AP) -- Longmont police say they won't write a trespassing ticket for a 17-year-old Colorado State University student whose legs were severed when she tried to hop a moving freight train but fell under the wheels.
Police Cmdr. Jeff Satur said Wednesday that Anna Beninati has plenty of other things to worry about. He adds, "We're a compassionate police department."
Two males who planned to board the train with Beninati were cited for trespassing on railroad right-of-way. Police want to cite a third male who was with the group but don't know where he is.
Satur says police will seek an arrest warrant if he doesn't voluntarily come to the police station. His name hasn't been released.
Beninati was hospitalized in serious condition after the Monday accident. She is from Sandy, Utah.
