Pinterest: More Than Money-Saving Ideas
A social networking site is getting more users and attention everyday. More and more people are joining the Pinterest craze, and some are even saving money, too.
"We found this idea on pinterest. There's actually a painting kit," said Pinterest member Emily McKevitt. "You take off a cabinet door and all of a sudden you have a custom cabinet."
McKevitt didn't like her drab, dark kitchen so she turned her interest to Pinterest.
Pinterest is part of an online bulletin board and part scrapbook with useful gossip and ideas thrown in.
"Recipes on how to feed your family on less than $250 a month, organizational ideas, budgeting," said McKevitt.
Mara Wiles is a thrift store shopper who uses Pinterest images to turn cheap into chic.
"I like to go to this website, it's called Pinterest.com and I know it's pretty popular," said Wiles. "But what I like to do is find outfits, people will post celebrity outfits or model outfits, outfits they like. And I like to kind of challenge myself to see if I can make the bargain knock-off version of that."
The website is free and almost free for all those with creative ideas. It's flashy and fun and forward thinking.
"I think it's similar to how my grandmother would have gotten ideas at church or around the kitchen table," said McKevitt.
Those who use Pinterest are called Pinners and they pin their hopes on the postings of others.
