Peyton Manning To Announce Retirement On Monday Morning
DENVER (CBS4) - Denver Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning will announce on Monday that Super Bowl 50 was his last game as a professional football player.
The announcement will be made at the Broncos headquarters in Englewood at 11 a.m., the Denver Broncos revealed Sunday morning.
Manning is a shoe-in for the Pro Football Hall of Fame and is considered one of the greatest quarterbacks of all time. He played his entire career for two teams -- the Indianapolis Colts and the Denver Broncos -- and won Super Bowls with both.
Manning is the son of former NFL quarterback Archie Manning and older brother of Eli Manning, quarterback for the New York Giants and two-time Super Bowl winner himself.
Manning played college football for the University of Tennessee and was drafted by the Colts in 1998. He played for the Colts for 13 seasons before he injured his neck and had to sit out the whole 2011 season. He then joined the Broncos in 2012 led them to the playoff four straight times.
The following is a look back at some of the more notable milestones of his illustrious career:
- Manning is a five-time league MVP, an NFL record. He won the award in 2003, 2004, 2008, 2009 and then again in 2013.
- He has played in four Super Bowls -- two with the Colts and two with the Broncos. His first championship came with the Colts in 2006 when they beat the Chicago Bears 29–17 in Super Bowl XLI. He was voted Super Bowl MVP. His second championship was on Feb. 7 in Super Bowl 50 when the Broncos defeated the Panthers 24-10.
- He's been named to 14 Pro Bowls.
- With the Broncos in 2013 Manning broke the single season touchdown record with 55. That year he also broke the record for most passing yards in a season with 5,477 and tied the single game touchdown record with 7.
- In 2014 Manning broke Brett Favre's record for most career TDs with his 509th touchdown pass.
- In 2015 he overtook Favre as the all-time passing yardage leader.
- He has 86 games of throwing for 300 or more yards, an NFL record.
- He has the most season (14) with at least 4,000 passing yards.
- Manning is tied with Favre with the most career wins (186) as a starting quarterback. He would have surely broke this record in the 2015 season had he not missed several games late in the season due to a foot injury.
- Manning also owns numerous rookie and playoff records, as well as most Colts franchise records and many Broncos franchise records.
