Suspect In Park Hill Triple Homicide Arrested In Oklahoma
DENVER (CBS4) - Police in Denver have announced the arrest of a suspect in a triple homicide that occurred last Friday night in the Northeast Park Hill neighborhood.
According to police, Chad Evans, 32, was arrested Tuesday afternoon in Tulsa, Oklahoma, with the help of the Tulsa Police Department.
When police arrived at a home Friday night after an emergency call came in about a shooting they found a person who had been shot in the arm. That person was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
When officers went into the home they found two people dead. Another victim who apparently was hurt in the same incident was rushed to a hospital by others but that person died soon afterwards.
The residence is at the 3622 East 36th Avenue, near Hudson Street.
"It's our basic understanding that this event is a drug deal that has gone extremely bad and as a result we have three people that are dead, one person that is injured," Denver police Technician Tyrone Campbell said Saturday afternoon.
The Denver coroner's office identified the victims Monday as Devonne Burton, 28; Sean Point, 27; and Derrius Woods, 27. Burton and Point were found dead in the home and Woods died at a hospital.
Evans told reporters Monday that he was not responsible for any of the three murders. But he did tell police in Tulsa that he wanted to turn himself in.
Evans used to play for the University of Tulsa football team. He planned to turn himself in Tuesday, but was spotted by police yesterday in a family car. When they pulled the car over, Evans got out and was taken into custody.
"Tulsa PD played an integral role in the investigation and arrest, and the Denver Police Department is grateful for their assistance. Evans is being held for investigation of felony murder, attempted murder and robbery," Denver police said in a statement.
Authorities are still searching for other suspects police described as people of interest in the case. At the time of the shooting they were said to be driving a maroon Chevy Tahoe. The SUV was a 2015 model or newer and could have a temporary license plate.
