CDOT Cancels Plans For Pace Cars On I-70 Sunday
DENVER (AP) - Colorado highway officials have canceled plans to have police cars pace traffic on eastbound Interstate 70 in the mountains on Sunday.
The Colorado Department of Transportation said Saturday it expects traffic to be too heavy for pace cars to do any good.
CDOT uses pace cars to produce more uniform speeds and reduce congestion and crashes. Pace cars are police cruisers driving between 35 and 55 mph with lights flashing.
Heavy traffic is expected on eastbound I-70 Sunday as snow enthusiasts return from skiing or from the Winter Mountain Games in Vail.
CDOT says it took as long as 2 hours and 10 minutes to drive the 60 miles from Silverthorne to Denver after last year's games.
