Oil Spill Cleanup Underway In Windsor
WINDSOR, Colo. (CBS4) - Crews in Northern Colorado are cleaning up after an oil spill in Windsor dumped 7,500 gallons of crude oil into the Poudre River.
On Friday afternoon Noble energy representatives said they discovered about 170 barrels of oil from a flood damaged production tank had been unintentionally released into the nearby Cache la Poudre River.
Crews were working at the site on Saturday afternoon to take apart the affected storage tanks and they will also be preparing to remove the impacted soil.
The Colorado Oil and Gas Conservation Commission as well as the EPA were contacted.
No drinking water reportedly has been affected but some of the vegetation in the area surrounding one of the tanks was stained.
A second tank near the spill site didn't have any damage but to be safe the company says they will be removing any oil from it as well.
Noble Energy said in a statement released Saturday their employees are working with an environmental service to ensure proper cleanup and will work closely with the appropriate agencies to mitigate any potential environmental impacts.
