New Park Designed To Honor Arapahoe High School Shooting Victim

CENTENNIAL, Colo. (CBS4) - Trees and granite pillars with inspirational quotes are now part of the campus at Arapahoe High School.

The park called Clarity Commons was designed to honor the life of Claire Davis. Last December she was shot and killed by a fellow student at school. Saturday would have been Davis' 18th birthday.

"It's something so positive that came out of something so negative, and it's just awesome to see," senior Ellen Savarese said.

Students are focusing on healing as they prepare to go back to class.

"It never occurred to me that she was everyone's best friend, the girl next door, everyone's granddaughter and favorite babysitter," Davis' mother Desiree Davis said.

"It does provide clarity and it gives you a place to sit and think about something that you might have thought one way about, and now you can sit here and gain some clarity on the entire situation," Savarese said. Douge Rockne donated his design services. Community members gathered Saturday for the unveiling of this inspirational pillar in the plaza, including Gov. John Hickenlooper.

"Most importantly, Clarity Commons represents the love and support that the Davis family has shown all of us," Principal Natalie Pramenko said.
