Mounted Rangers Divided Amid Board Dispute
DURANGO, Colo. (AP) - The Colorado Mounted Rangers, one of the state's oldest law enforcement groups, has split up and formed two patrols amid a dispute over board members.
The new group, called the La Plata County Mounted Patrol, has the backing of local authorities.
The local chapter of the rangers , Troop D, remains intact.
Their role in southwest Colorado has been largely focused on search-and-rescue efforts, helping lost and injured climbers, hikers, hunters and mountain bikers.
According to the Durango Herald, the governing board that oversees the seven troops in Colorado removed five local board members from office and expelled four of them for violating bylaws, but officials are refusing to be specific.
