Mountain Lion Spotted In Wheat Ridge

WHEAT RIDGE, Colo. (CBS4)- Police in Wheat Ridge and the Department of Wildlife are investigating a mountain lion sighting. Two girls reported seeing the wild cat while walking their dog near Prospect Park at 44th and Robb Street.

It happened at about 8 a.m. Sunday.

Authorities have not confirmed a mountain lion in that neighborhood, but did warn residents to stay away from the park during Sunday morning's search.

Wildlife officials were unable to find a mountain lion.

Wheat Ridge Police said if you do encounter a mountain lion, follow these tips:

  • Make a lot of noise
  • Do not approach the lion
  • Stay very calm
  • Back away slowly
  • Appear as large as possible
