Missing Arvada Teen Located At King Soopers In Arvada
ARVADA, Colo. (CBS4) - An Arvada teen missing since Friday has been located and police have interviewed her.
The 19-year-old was spotted at a King Soopers located at West 80th and Sheridan Boulevard on Monday evening, according to Sgt. Michelle Moriarty with Arvada police. She's reported to be in good condition and police took her to her parents.
While the woman is 19, she is developmentally disabled and functions at the level of a 12-year-old, according to her family.
On Monday morning someone reported seeing the teen at Westminster High School. A school employee told police she tried to get her to come into the school, but she left in a small red pickup truck. Police were looking for the driver of the pickup but now Moriarty says nobody is in custody and they aren't looking for anybody.
Police said the whole incident started when the teen apparently helped a drunk man get home and into his house. According to police, the man assumed she was homeless and let her stay at his house. Police said there doesn't appear to be a criminal incident.
Surveillance video showed the teen at a gas station on Sheridan Boulevard across from Lakeside Amusement Park on Friday. Another tipster told police the teen was asking for directions to a Jefferson County Library.
"It's not a place (the library) that she's ever been," her father told CBS4. "It's not something that she would necessarily determine on her own volition."
"She's never done anything like that before or like this," her mother said. "She's pretty much a homebody."
A reverse 911 call alerted the neighborhood to the teen's disappearance. Volunteers searched the area since Saturday. Sunday morning a military helicopter joined the search.
Arvada police said they would like to thank the public for their help in locating the woman.
