Manitou Springs Residents Brace For More Flooding
MANITOU SPRINGS, Colo. (CBS4)- Sandbags line the streets of Manitou Springs as the small town west of Colorado Springs braces for another round of severe storms that could bring devastating heavy rain.
Even a small amount of rain can cause flooding as the water washes down the Waldo Canyon Fire burn scar. The lack of vegetation sends mud and debris left in the wake of the wildfire down streets in the middle of town.
Sandbags and Jersey Barriers line the streets of Manitou in hopes of preventing some water damage.
Monday's deluge washed away a bridge in Woodland Park and sent several inches of mud into a home in Green Mountain Falls.
"The water was high and it was running fast," said Green Mountain Falls resident Scott Steerman. "I'm just watching the sky."
Green Mountain Falls Fire Department has extra crews on standby in case more severe storms bring heavy rain.
"So far it's been very wet. No forest fires but a lot of water," said Green Mountain Falls Fire Department spokesman Richard Bowman.
