Man Gets 48 Years For Role In Murder Of Elementary School Teacher
DENVER (CBS4) - A man accused of being an accomplice in the shooting death of 22-year-old Andrea Roan was sentenced to 48 years in prison on Wednesday.
Lynn Kimbrough with the district attorney's office said Richard Leavitt, 28, pleaded guilty earlier to second-degree murder for his role in the crime.
Leavitt was an accomplice to Ryan Miller, 28, in the murder of Roan, who taught elementary school in Commerce City.
"(Roan) was on her way to work the morning of Dec. 16, 2011, when Miller shot and killed her, a former girlfriend, as she was driving away from her home," Kimbrough said in a statement.
The investigation revealed that Leavitt obtained the murder weapon and provided it to Miller. He also drove Miller to and from the crime scene and helped hide the murder weapon.
Miller was convicted earlier this year of first-degree murder, kidnapping, burglary, criminal trespass and assault. Miller faces life in prison without parole when he is sentenced on June 10.
