Man Accidently Shoots And Kills Stepdaughter

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (CBS4) – Police say a man accidentally shot and killed his stepdaughter early Monday morning in Colorado Springs.

The man apparently thought the girl was a burglar when he heard someone breaking in just before 6 a.m.

"Sounded like college kids. Some kind of ruckus and shouting," said neighbor Mary Cesiewicz.

Colorado Springs police got the call that a person was thought to be breaking into the home. The man living inside grabbed his gun.

The suspect turned out to be the man's 14-year-old stepdaughter.

Police say she was shot in the stomach and the chest.

She was rushed to a nearby hospital where she later died.

Police have not said what kind of gun was used but apparently multiple shots were fired.

"Some bullets were removed from the side of our home," said Cesiewicz, "It was shocking."

The Colorado Springs Police Violent Crimes Unit is still investigating the shooting and few details have been released.

The Colorado Springs district attorney has been handed the case to determine what charges if any will be filed.
