Littleton Babysitter Arrested In Sex Assault Case

LITTLETON, Colo. (CBS4)- Police in Littleton have arrested a man suspected of sexually assaulting a child he was babysitting.

Leslie David VanCleave was arrested August 23 for sexual assault on a child and sexual assault on a child by one in a position of trust.

Investigators said VanCleave, 62, was babysitting the alleged victim in his Littleton home located at 8201 S. Santa Fe Drive, Lot 211.

Investigators also have learned that VanCleave worked at an in-home daycare in the recent past.

Neighbors have mixed reaction when asked about VanCleave.

"I talked to him one time and he said that he had been hit by lighting three times and he was in the CIA or somethign like that," said one neighbor.

When asked if they had seen him babysitting children, one neighbor replied, "Yes. Nice guy."

"He watched these two families, out of the kindness of his heart, he didn't charge them. And he has continued to watch them. He's raised them since they were babies," said another neighbor.

VanCleave remains in custody at the Arapahoe County Jail on a $50,000 bond.
