Life Sentence For Man Convicted In Teacher's Death
DENVER (AP) — A man convicted of shooting and killing his ex-girlfriend as she drove away from her Denver home has been sentenced to life in prison without parole.
Ryan Miller was sentenced Monday in the death of fifth-grade teacher Andrea Roan in December 2011. He was convicted earlier this year of first-degree murder, second-degree kidnapping, first-degree burglary, first-degree trespassing and third-degree assault.
In addition to a life sentence, Miller also was sentenced to an extra 23 years in prison on the other charges.
Roan had tried to get a protective order against Miller before the shooting.
Richard James Leavitt, who prosecutors say drove Miller to and from the crime scene and helped hide the murder weapon, pleaded guilty to second-degree murder. Leavitt was sentenced last month to 48 years in prison.
