Lawmakers Push For Better Film Incentives In Colorado

DENVER (AP) - Colorado lawmakers are trying again this year to boost the state's incentives for film for production companies to compete with other places in the country.

A proposal released Wednesday would increase the tax rebate the state gives production companies from 10 percent to 20 percent.

Colorado has a rich history of film that includes the original "True Grit" movie with John Wayne. But film production companies have been going to other states, like New Mexico, because they have better incentives. Supporters of film incentives say movie productions bring jobs to the state and helps local economies.

A bill last year to boost the state's incentive fund with an optional 10-cent fee on tickets failed. This year, Democratic Gov. John Hickenlooper is advocating for better film incentives.
