Larimer County Coroner's Investigator Suspected In Father's Death

LOVELAND, Colo. (AP) - Authorities say a 25-year-old Larimer County Coroner's investigator is suspected of killing his father after a family dispute.

The Loveland Reporter-Herald reported Friday that Matthew Canaga is on paid leave while the shooting is investigated. No charges have been filed in the Tuesday morning shooting but the case will be turned over to prosecutors for consideration.

Police say officers found 51-year-old Patrick Canaga on the front yard of his son's Loveland home. Authorities have revealed few details about what led to the shooting but say they're exploring whether it happened in self-defense.

Authorities say Patrick Canaga was shot once on the chest. The Denver Coroner's office conducted the autopsy because Matthew Canaga's job in Larimer County.
