Largest District In Colorado Begins School Year
JEFFERSON COUNTY, Colo. (CBS4) - That collective groan heard from the west side of the metro area was the Jefferson County school students heading back to class Monday morning -- although the youngest students seemed excited.
The new kindergarteners filled up the rooms at Stevens Elementary. They're not the only new students as others came from schools the district closed because of budget cuts.
There were still some old pros ready to start learning.
"We were learning if a muffin costs 7 cents, how much would it cost for three," third grader Joshua Carrillo said.
Jefferson County is the largest district in the state. More than 86,000 students flooded 154 schools on Monday.
