Lakewood Police: 2 Escapees Lead Police On Chase In Stolen Car
LAKEWOOD, Colo. (CBS4) - Lakewood police say two males carjacked a female at knifepoint Sunday morning. Officers responded to a 7-Eleven at Pierce Street and Mississippi Avenue at around 7 a.m.
No one was hurt, and both of the suspects got away.
"Lakewood agents located a vehicle about 11:28 a.m. that was taken in a carjacking earlier this morning. When agents attempted to stop the vehicle it fled," said Lakewood agent Lindsay Jones.
Lakewood police later told CBS4 the two suspects are the 17 year olds who escaped the Mount View Youth Services Center Saturday night. Police say Eduardo Ruelas and Emilio Dominguez escaped after assaulting a staff member at the center.
Lakewood Police followed the car into Denver where it eventually crashed near 5th and Newton.
"The two occupants of the vehicle took off on foot. Lakewood agents and Denver officers were in the area at that time and were able to locate the two occupants and take them into custody," Jones said. "They were the two that were in the car when was attempted to be stopped by agents. We just can't confirm until our investigation is done that they were the ones that were involved in the initial taking of that vehicle."
This is the second time Emilio Dominguez has escaped custody. Last year he escaped a different facility by climbing out of his window using a bed sheet. Police are glad the pair is off the street.
"Especially with the concerns going on nowadays. people are stuck at home with these two out on the streets I know people were nervous," said Jones.
No officers or civilians were hurt in Sunday morning's events.
