Jefferson County, Other Areas Ease Fire Restrictions
DENVER (CBS4) - Gov. John Hickenlooper lifted the statewide fire ban over the weekend, and now some counties, cities and parks are also easing restrictions.
The fire danger is currently listed at moderate across Colorado's Front Range.
Jefferson County lifted parts of its ban on Thursday; people in incorporated parts of the county can fire up charcoal grills and outdoor fireplaces now, and even use legal fireworks.
After two weeks of its most restrictive bans ever, Golden is lifting its ban on charcoal and wood burning grills. The city has removed the plastic bags that were placed over grills in city parks, but open burning is still banned.
Rocky Mountain National Park is also easing restrictions, once again allowing campfires in permitted areas. And all grills are allowed again.
Arapahoe County's main open burning ban remains in effect, but charcoal grills at private residences are now allowed. The county stated on Thursday that Sheriff Grayson Robinson "has determined that existing conditions in Arapahoe County still present an extreme danger for the possibility of wildfire and large wildland fires."
Garfield and Pitkin counties are still retaining stronger bans, as well as the White River National Forest. The San Juan National Forest is easing restrictions only at higher elevations.
