Holmes' Lawyers Ask More Time To Address Issues
DENVER (AP) - Lawyers for Colorado theater shooting suspect James Holmes are asking for more time to research and address death penalty issues.
In a motion filed Monday, defense attorneys asked to delay a filing deadline until Aug. 30 because death penalty cases are complex and should not be rushed. The judge has not indicated when he will rule on the latest motion.
Holmes is accused of killing 12 people and injuring 70 at an Aurora theater in July 2012. He pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity to multiple counts of murder and attempted murder. Prosecutors are seeking the death penalty.
