Hickenlooper Visits High Park Fire Scene Again

FORT COLLINS, Colo. (CBS4) - Gov. John Hickenlooper visited with officials handling the High Park Fire again on Tuesday.

Hickenlooper also spoke with reporters, and spoke highly of the 1,900 fire personnel that have been fighting the nearly 90,000 acre blaze since it broke out in the foothills west of Fort Collins on June 9.

Hickenlooper says when you add the fires in the state together, about 175,000 acres are burning. That means resources are stretched thin, but the fight continues.

"We've got the equipment we need, we've got the talent we need and some of the best firefighters and some of the best strategic thinkers -- about how to think about fighting a fire -- in the world right here in Colorado helping us fight these fires," Hickenlooper said.

It's estimated the High Park Fire has cost nearly $32 million, but the governor says the federal government will help with some of the bill.
