Hickenlooper To Shake Up Oil-Gas Commission
GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (AP) - Gov. John Hickenlooper has drawn up a list of potential appointees to the Colorado Oil and Gas Conservation Commission and only two incumbents are on the list.
Hickenlooper is nearly a month late in making appointments to the nine-member commission, which evaluates and issues permits.
Two executive directors of state agencies will sit on the panel, but the other members have not been announced.
According to the Grand Junction Daily Sentinel, Hickenlooper is considering only two existing commissioners, Grand Junction environmental scientist Richard Alward and Hesperus rancher Thomas Compton.
Industry officials have criticized the agency, saying rules aimed at balancing development with protections for human health and the environment are among the country's most restrictive.
