Greeley Teacher Who Gave Birth To Student's Child Gets Jail Time
GREELEY, Colo. (CBS4) - A former A Spanish teacher at North Ridge High School in Greeley who gave birth to a child as a result of a relationship with a student will do jail time.
Rhonda Eisenberg was sentenced Wednesday for sexually assaulting a teenage student. The sentence handed down by the judge was what prosecutors and Eisenberg's defense attorney had agreed upon when she took a plea deal a few months ago.
The sentence includes 90 days behind bars, registering as a sex offender, as well as 4 years of sex offender intensive supervised probation.
Eisenberg walked into court Wednesday accompanied with her father and attorney.
The case stems from the relationship Eisenberg had with a 17-year-old student, which lead to the birth of a child. The student was living with her at the time because his parents had moved to Mexico and she was his legal guardian.
Before sentencing, Eisenberg had a chance to address the court.
"It was my responsibility to protect him," she told the court. "I'm sorry for any of the negative effects this will have on him. I do regret what I've done … I want to apologize to my family, my former students and their parents. I often think about them and how disappointed they must be in me."
The victim was also present in court. He is now 20. He also addressed the court asking the judge to allow written contact. The judge agreed.
Directly after the sentencing Eisenberg was taken into custody to begin her 90 day jail sentence.
