Girls & Science This Saturday: Explore What It's Like To Be A Geologist

DENVER (CBS4) - This Saturday, Feb. 7 is Girls & Science at the Denver Museum of Nature & Science.

It's a day where girls ages 3-18 will have a chance for hands on exploration into science, technology, engineering and math careers.

One exhibit will include Geologist Karen Lechtenberg of Encana showing what it's like to find and study rocks as she and her company explore for oil and gas underground.

Girls will be able to do a variety of activities in the Encana Clubhouse at Girls & Science which include drilling for a sample of rock using a straw and a candy bar and looking at some of the many tools that geologists use each day.

Girls will even be able to try on field gear and take pictures of themselves dressed like a geologist.

"The clubhouse will be set up like my camp in the field," said Lechtenberg.

In addition to Encana and many other companies, CBS4's Lauren Whitney from the Colorado Weather Center will also be at Girls & Science giving visitors a look into the world of meteorology and broadcasting inside her clubhouse.

Meteorologist Chris Spears writes about stories related to weather and climate in Colorado. Check out his bio or follow him on Twitter @ChrisCBS4.
