Fourth of July MLB Games See Big Ticket Price Increase for Some Teams, Deals for Others
There may be no image more quintessentially American than baseball fans spending the Fourth of July at a baseball game – which is what many around the country are doing with their holiday on Monday. All 30 teams are playing in 15 parks, leading to an increase in prices compared to typical Mondays for some teams – and deals for others.
Nowhere is this more evident than in Cleveland, where the Indians – as of June 30 – have won 12 games in a row and are sitting atop the AL Central division with a cozy lead over their Monday opponents, the Detroit Tigers. A typical Monday game at Progressive Field has a median price of $41 for the remainder of the season, but for the Fourth, prices are 95 percent higher than normal, with a median of $80.

The next-largest increase for typical Monday pricing is in San Francisco, where a Giants game usually has a $41 median but has climbed 83 percent higher for a Fourth of July median price of $75 for their contest against the Colorado Rockies.
Perhaps unsurprisingly, the highest-priced game for the holiday is at Wrigley Field. The Chicago Cubs will host the Cincinnati Reds for a get-in of $57 and a median price of $155 - up 36 percent from their usual Monday median of $114. On the south side of the city, the White Sox will be hosting the Yankees at a substantially lower median price – just $44, the same as their typical Monday games.
Four host teams are seeing lower Fourth of July pricing than is typical for their Monday games. The Boston Red Sox have an Independence Day median price of $68 for their game against the Texas Rangers, down 6 percent from their remaining Monday median price of $72. The New York Mets‘ median price of $54 against the Miami Marlins is 23 percent lower than their other Mondays, which have a $70 median. In St. Louis, the median price of $28 for the matchup against the Pittsburgh Pirates is a 13 percent drop from the Cardinals’ median price of $32.
The MLB’s one Canadian team, the Toronto Blue Jays, hosts the Kansas City Royals at the Rogers Centre on Monday. As it’s not a national holiday, the $28 median price has dropped the most out of the 15 home games, down 33 percent from their season Monday median price of $42.
