Fort Carson Soldier Convicted Of Murder

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) -- A Fort Carson soldier has been convicted of first-degree murder with extreme indifference and second-degree murder in a random drive-by shooting outside a store in Colorado Springs.

Frank Lee Miller was also convicted Friday of second-degree murder in the death of 26-year-old Christopher Harmon last September. The Gazette reports that 20-year-old Miller was immediately sentenced to life in prison without parole.

Authorities say Miller was driving the car from which the shots were fired and didn't pull the trigger. But a fellow soldier testified Miller orchestrated the killing by handing a gun to then 17-year-old Jordan Ellis and ordering him to shoot.

Ellis has been charged as an adult with first-degree murder and is scheduled to be tried Oct. 31.

Miller served in Afghanistan from May 2009 to June 2010.
