Former Greeley Funeral Director Gets 12 Year Sentence

GREELEY, Colo. (CBS4) - A judge ruled this week that a funeral director will spend 12 years behind bars for selling fake funeral arrangements to 14 elderly victims.

Paul Acuna owned Paul's Funeral Service on 9th Street in Greeley. He pre-sold funeral arrangements and took more than $31,000 from people for services he said he would provide at their deaths but he never did.

The business closed in April 2012, and customers say they were never notified or given refunds for the prepaid services. Acuna was arrested in December 2012 on forgery and theft charges.

From jail a year ago Acuna told CBS4 his business was suffering and that bills were piling up.

An anonymous donor has come forward to pay the families back their $31,000. That donor says if Acuna pays the money back it should go to charity.
