Former Denver Officer Suspected In Beating Investigation
JEFFERSON COUNTY, Colo. (CBS4) - One of two Denver police officers investigated for a confrontation that was caught on camera last year is now the focus of another beating investigation.
Johnny Diaz is accused of breaking into his ex-girlfriend's home on Deer Creek Road in Jefferson County on Sunday and beating a man inside.
According to police records, Diaz screamed as he kicked in the front door. Marks from the incident were still visible on the door on Wednesday.
As Diaz's ex-girlfriend ran for help, police say Diaz punched her new boyfriend in the face, chest, back and head and then drove away on his motorcycle.
Trudy Kearns, a neighbor, said she heard what went on.
"I heard some commotion and some noise and yelling. I heard some tires squeal," Kearns said.
In March 2010 Diaz and a fellow officer were investigated for assault after pinning a man against a railing and then punching and kicking him to the ground.
Diaz retired from the force shortly before the man was awarded a $35,000 settlement.
In 1995 Diaz talked to CBS4 about his role as an officer. Watch some of the video from that report in Tom Mustin's Wednesday night report below:
Diaz was arrested Monday and has been released on bond. He's facing charges of burglary, assault , criminal mischief and domestic violence.
