Former College Place-Kicker Katie Hnida To Speak At University Of New Mexico

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP/CBS4) - Former college place-kicker Katie Hnida will be returning to Albuquerque this week to speak to student-athletes at the University of New Mexico.

Hnida was one of the first women to play college football and went on to kick for the University of New Mexico after leaving the University of Colorado. In 2002, she became the first woman to play in a NCAA Division I-A game. That year, she saw playing time against UCLA in the Las Vegas Bowl.

During her visit on Wednesday, Hnida will be speaking with juniors and seniors as part of the university's Lobo Leadership Institute.

Hnida, who now lives on the East Coast, works with many organizations that aim to combat violence against women. She is the daughter of CBS4 Medical Editor Dr. Dave Hnida.
