Firefighters Investigate Home Explosion Near Conifer

CONIFER, Colo. (CBS4)- Firefighters are investigating a home explosion that happened east of Conifer about 5:45 p.m. Friday.

The home is located at 19052 Timber Falls Trail in unincorporated Jefferson County. After the explosion, the large log frame home burned to the ground. Debris scattered for 100 yards in all directions.

The fire also started a grass fire in the area. That fire is under control.

Investigators believe the home was unoccupied when the explosion happened. Firefighters did not find any people hurt in the blast and fire.The homeowner was away at the time of the explosion and has been alerted to the situation.

Firefighters from Inter-Canyon, Elk Creek and Indian Hills are at the scene of the explosion.

The exact cause of the explosion and blaze remain under investigation. Results of that investigation may not be available for several days.
