Fire Heavily Damages Aurora Apartments
AURORA, Colo. (CBS4) - A fire in Aurora heavily damaged an apartment complex.
Fire officials say the blaze broke out Sunday night and spread through the attic of Huntington Ridge Apartments and through the roof.
Fire crews had to get out at one point because they were afraid the floor would collapse.
"We used many thousands of gallons of water to put it out, so even the properties here that don't appear to have smoke damage will have extensive water damage," said Capt. Allen Robnett with the Aurora Fire Department.
"It was pretty devastating, though, to see your own house or apartment burn down where all your belongings are," said Ibsa Ibrahim a resident of the apartments.
Eighteen homes were damaged and twelve people were displaced by the fire. Among those is Deneen Clark and her 82-year-old aunt.
"Just the thought of having to look for a new place to live and move and find a place that would accomodate my aunt and her living conditions -- it's just tiring," she told CBS4.
There are no reports of injuries.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
