Federal Investigation Into Marijuana Facilities Nets More Arrests
DENVER (CBS4)- A federal investigation into marijuana facilities has netted more arrests.
The arrests come after a grand jury returned sealed indictment tied to a series of raids in November 2013 of marijuana facilities and their owners.
Three people were taken into custody on Friday, David Furtado, Gerardo Uribe and Luis Urbie. A fourth, Hector Diaz, has already been charged and under court supervision. Those arrested are part of an investigation that may have links to a Colombian drug operation.
Furtado has partial ownership of several marijuana facilities. Gerardo and Luis are from Colombia.
Diaz is from Barranquilla, Colombia. He was already facing weapons charges and is also named in an indictment for conspiracy to commit money laundering.
Diaz was seen in a picture taken last year holding guns and wearing a DEA hat inside a Cherry Hills home. Agents raided that home as well. At that time Furtado was one of those named as one of the targets of the investigation.
Federal agents from the DEA, IRS Criminal Division and State Department joined forces in the November 2013 raids.
More than a dozen locations in the Denver, Boulder and foothills area were visited by law enforcement authorities. They confiscated marijuana, records, computers and more.
Sean McCallister is the attorney for the Uribes. He said his clients did nothing wrong under state law.
The sealed indictment is expected to be opened on Monday when those arrested may appear in court. It may be possible that others are named in the indictment as well.
