Extradition Of Murderer Back To Florida On Hold

MONTROSE, Colo. (AP) - Colorado Gov. John Hickenlooper has approved extradition for Florida murderer Frederick Barrett.

However, according to the Montrose Daily Press, his return to Florida has been put on hold until a local charge of fugitive of justice is resolved.

Barrett was found living in a remote cabin in Montrose County last month, 32 years after escaping prison in Florida for the third time.

Barrett was serving a life term for the 1971 murder of Carl Adolino on the Florida Turnpike when he escaped in 1979. He said at an earlier Montrose court hearing that he escaped to avoid being assaulted or killed as retaliation for having helped save the lives of guards during a 1973 prison riot.
