Postal Service Mailbox Explosion Possibly Caused By Pipe Bomb
ARVADA, Colo. (CBS4) - Inspectors with the U.S. Postal Service and the ATF have joined Arvada police in an investigation into how a Postal Service mailbox was destroyed overnight.
The mailbox was located in a parking lot on the 9500 block of Ralston Road, and police said it's possible a pipe bomb caused the damage.
Arvada police said several people called about a suspicious noise at 2:30 a.m. Police responded but were unable to determine what the calls were about because they came from several different areas.
At 7 a.m. another person called police and alerted them to the exploded mailbox, which is in front of a building that formerly housed a Safeway grocery store.
Investigators put numerous markers down on the concrete where debris surrounded the mailbox as part of their investigation.
