Denver Zoo Receives Polar Bear From Detroit Zoo

DENVER (AP) - A new polar bear has arrived at the Denver Zoo.

The 12-year-old male polar bear named Lee is from the Detroit Zoo. He arrived in Denver as part of efforts to ensure healthy populations of polar bears and genetic diversity among zoo animals.

In Denver, Lee will be paired with a 10-year-old named Cranbeary after he adjusts to his new habitat.

There are an estimated 20,000 to 25,000 polar bears in the world. The Denver Zoo says their numbers have been dropping, partly because of climate change that has led to the loss of sea ice.
