Denver Weather: Scattered Showers, Maybe Even A Few Afternoon Snow Squalls

DENVER (CBS4) - The third and final storm system of the week will cross Colorado by this evening. It'll bring scattered snow showers to the mountains and rain showers on the plains. In between, for elevations between 5,000 and 6,000 feet we will see a mixture of rain and snow.

Any additional accumulation in the mountains will be in the 1-4 inch range unless a location sees a squall or a few rounds of snow. In that case we could see up to 6 inches more before the night is over.

In Denver and along/east of Interstate 25 we are not expecting much in the way of snow. If it does snow the accumulation will be confined to grassy areas. Any location that picks up a squall could get a quick inch or two. Roads could briefly turn slushy in the vicinity of snow squalls.

With the storm overhead it will be cooler than it was on Thursday. Most locations have already reached their daytime high due to the extensive cloud cover.

The entire state of Colorado will see a warmer and drier weekend with the pick day being Sunday if you want to make outdoor plans. The warm weather will last into Monday of next week.

However it will turn very windy around Colorado early next week as a new storm approaches the state. It'll turn much colder on Tuesday with another chance for rain and snow, not only in the mountains, but also in Denver and on the plains.
