Male Suspect Dies After Chase, Crash, Shooting With Denver Police

DENVER (CBS4)- Police in Denver are investigating a shooting that began with a pursuit that spanned from Denver to Lakewood and back into Denver. The suspect died after the shooting that involved Denver police officers.

Officers responded to Morrison Road and West Ohio on a report of an individual shooting a gun into the air. Witnesses said that the suspect was getting into a dark-colored vehicle and was about to drive away when officers arrived and tried to stop the vehicle.

Instead, the suspect drove off and police engaged in a pursuit. As the suspect approached Perry Street, the suspect crashed.

After the crash, the suspect threatened officers with weapons and that is when officers fired upon the suspect in the area of West 1st and Perry Street on Friday afternoon.

Officers said that the suspect had a handgun and they believe he was firing at officers during the pursuit.

Several roads remained closed in the area after the shooting and drivers were urged to avoid the area, if possible.

No officers were injured.
