Suspect In Custody, Rushed To Hospital After Shooting With Denver Police Officer
DENVER (CBS4)- A Denver police officer was involved in a shooting with a suspect on Wednesday afternoon. The shooting happened at a business near the intersection of Yale and Colorado.
The suspect was taken into custody and was rushed to the hospital following the shooting.
Denver Police Division Chief Thomas said that Denver police officers were assisting the Arvada Police Department in locating and taking into custody a homicide suspect from over the weekend. That individual was tracked to a business near the intersection of Yale Avenue and Colorado Boulevard.
As the individual was leaving the business, officers moved in to make contact with him, that's when he broke free and ran to a vehicle parked behind the business. Officers surrounded the vehicle and that's when police said that the suspect retrieved a handgun and threatened officers with the handgun.
At the time officers felt threatened and they fired at the individual, striking him. Once they determined that the threat was over and the individual was incapacitated, officers stopped shooting and rendered aid. The suspect was rushed to the hospital.
Authorities say the suspect was wanted for a murder in Arvada. Police there say someone called 911 to say he was shot in the face. When officers arrived to the area near Wadsworth Parkway and 84th Way, they learned the victim was a Door Dash delivery driver who made a delivery at the home.
Police say the victim double parked in front of a white sedan which was later learned to be stolen. A male in the sedan told the victim to move his car, and the two exchanged words, police say.
When the victim walked to the home to deliver the meal, the suspect, police say, waited for him and then shot him as he came out of the building.
The suspect fled, but police identified him and obtained an arrest warrant for him. His name has not been released.
The public is urged to avoid the area during the investigation.
