Denver Police Chief Encourages Participaion In National Night Out Events
DENVER (CBS4) - Denver's police chief hopes neighbors will come out in force for Tuesday night's National Night Out.
This is the 29th year for the event, which is designed to strengthen neighborhoods and lead to less crime.
On the CBS4 Morning News Tuesday Denver Police Chief Robert White said this year is particularly important, with the recent shooting in Aurora and incident at City Park Jazz which killed Denver Officer Celena Hollis.
"Between the fires, the Aurora shooting and also Celena Hollis it's been a tough year for public safety and a tough year for our community. And I think it is important to let people know that together we're going to stand up for what's right in our community and assure that the community stays safe," White said.
The department took time to honor Hollis on Monday, giving Jared Hodisin, 9, the first Celena Hollis Citizenship Award. It recognizes a child who exhibits leadership and kidness - just like officer hollis. (FULL STORY)
