Denver Man Plans To Return To Waters After Shark Attack
CAPE COD, Colo. (CBS4)- A Denver man who is recovering from a shark attack is planning to return to the waters off Cape Cod where he was attacked earlier this week.
"It's my favorite beach in the world. I'm sure I'll be back. I'm sure I'll be back swimming. I think I'll stay a little closer to shore," said shark attack victim Chris Myers.
Myers said he loves to surf off the coast of Cape Cod but plans to heal first. He's still in the hospital recovering from serious injuries.
"I felt a huge bite on my leg like it was caught in a vice," said Myers.
Myers said he never saw the Great White but knew that the shark bit him. That's when he knew his option was to swim some 400 yards to shore.
"Perhaps it's just the adrenaline that kicks in but we didn't feel scared and I didn't feel pain. I didn't feel pain until about an hour and a half later in the ambulance," said Myers.
Myers was body surfing with one of his sons when the shark struck.
"I kicked with my leg. The shark didn't think I was very tasty and he let me go," said Myers. "Maybe I was the last person not to have heard that there were sharks off of Cape Cod but I hadn't heard that. If I had, I probably would have been more careful."
People who saw a fin pop through the surface of the water ran to help him. Myers suffered deep puncture wounds and needed 47 stitches.
"It felt like something, I didn't feel pain from the lacerations," said Myers. "I'm feeling very pleased to be here and walking."
Myers is the father of two sons. He's recovering at Massachusetts General Hospital.
If confirmed this would be the first Great White attack in more than 75 years.
