Child Killed In I-70 Crash, Female Driver Injured

EVERGREEN, Colo. (CBS4)- The Colorado State Patrol is investigating a deadly crash that closed Interstate 70 on Friday afternoon.

The crash happened about 3:30 p.m. Friday in the westbound lanes of I-70 at mile marker 255.

Investigators say the silver sedan was eastbound and crossed the median into oncoming traffic and crashed into a pickup.

A 2-year-old child was killed in the crash, CSP said.

The 28-year-old female driver of the silver car was hospitalized for her injuries but has since been released, according to a state patrol spokesman.

She is suspected of driving under the influence and could face vehicular homicide charges.

Her relationship to the child has not been determined.

Authorities are awaiting test results to ascertain the elements of her suspected intoxication.

The interstate reopened after 7 p.m.

The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office and Colorado Department of Transportation are assisting CSP with its investigation.
