Deadly Aurora Apartment Fire Ruled An Accident

AURORA, Colo. (CBS4) - Investigators in Aurora have ruled a fire that led to the death of a woman at an apartment complex an accident.

The fire happened in the Aspenwood Apartments near the intersection of 6th Avenue and Potomac.

"After an extensive joint Aurora Fire Department and Aurora Police Department investigation, it has been determined that the tragic fire on the morning of March 26, which resulted in the death of an Aurora resident, started as an accidental cooking fire," Cpt. Allen Robnett with Aurora fire said in a statement.

The death and the injuries happened after some people living in the building that caught fire jumped from second and third story windows.

Karen Dias, 66, died after jumping from her balcony.

Property damage was estimated at $500,000.
