Dangerous Debris On The Road Blamed For Accidents, Deaths
DENVER (CBS4)- Debris that falls onto the road can create hazardous conditions for drivers. Triple-A has issued a warning about the debris and blamed other drivers who do not properly secure the load before hitting the road.
The Colorado Department of Transportation has noticed more debris lately.
"The most bizarre thing of late, anyway, has been a rodeo, like a mannequin clown, rodeo clown," said CDOT spokesman Bob Wilson.
CDOT has the responsibility to remove road hazards even if the debris is on the shoulder.
Triple A found more than 500 people died in the U.S. during a three year period with another 39,000 injured.
"You may not see it being picked up, but eventually it does get picked up," said Wilson.
CDOT employees patrol the highways daily looking for road hazards so that traffic doesn't have to dodge debris.
Drivers could be fined $300 and 90 days in jail if caught with debris falling off their vehicle.
